Yes, the cool PS3 Slim is out and everyone is so excited about the release, the specs and the amazing update, but I have a feeling that the old Phat PS3 Mods will always look better, for it is as if they have more meat on them to play with. One amazing example is this Steampunk PS3 Mod that looks too good to believe it is a functional Playstation 3 game console.

This amazing Playstation 3 mod was created by BrassGoggles and provides good looking Steampunk Art that keeps the PS3 warranty intact, for it does not take apart any pieces but just adds a touch of art.

PSP Firmware Update v6.10 incoming

Sony has announced that a new PSP firmware update version 6.10 will be released shortly. According to Eric Lempell, PlayStation Network Operations, this is a big update in preparation for the launch of PSP Go. All PSP Go owners are advised to download the update to ensure full compatibility with MediaGo and with all PSP titles.

Version 6.10 features:

* SensMe channels is a new music application for PSP that uses Sony’s proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP. The application automatically categorizes the tracks into 12 channels such as “Relax” or “Newly Added”. Check out the walk-thru demo to see how it works.
* In addition, PS Store for the PSP and PSPgo via Media Go (v1.2) will be updated with a new look on Thursday, October 1. To access PlayStation Store, you need to download Media Go (or update Media Go if you already have it). Media Go is a free PC software application that allows you to easily organize and transfer music, photos and videos between your PC and PSP. It also allows you to access PlayStation Store and to purchase, backup and restore PSP games. Of course, you can always access PlayStation Store directly on the PSP and PSPgo by connecting to a wireless hot spot and simply logging in with your PlayStation Network ID. But for those of you who prefer to use a PC, you will see that downloading games, movies and TV shows for your PSP is easier than ever with the new PlayStation Store on Media Go. * Tethering. Another new feature is the ability to use a bluetooth mobile device, such as a mobile phone, as a modem to connect your PSP system to the internet. This means that when you’re not located close to a wifi spot you have another way to get on the internet via a bluetooth mobile device.

Nintendo

Times have been tough lately in Mario Land. After being stomped on by an oversized cartoon plumber for more than two years, Nintendo’s rivals are doing their best to shrink Super Mario back down to size. The Japanese entertainment company’s decision on Thursday to knock 20 per cent off the price of the Wii, its popular gaming console, came on the heels of price cuts for rival Sony’s PlayStation3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

Along with the prospect of being dragged into a price war, there is plenty else for investors to feel glum about. Sales of the Wii fell 20 per cent in the first half, NPD market research estimates, while Nintendo’s shares have lost a third since January. And, with both Microsoft andSony preparing to launch their own versions of the Wii’s innovative motion-sensitive controls, Nintendo’s advantage in casual gaming risks being competed away.

But hang on. A price cut was inevitable given the number of Wiis already sold. Until this week, its price had been unchanged since the 2006 launch – the longest streak in gaming history.

While sales have fallen sharply, with an installed base of more than 52m consoles and a likely boost to sales ahead of the holiday season, the Wii’s position atop the heap looks secure. Its closest rival is Microsoft, with just over 30m consoles.

Nintendo’s share price already reflects lower growth expectations, having fallen from a peak of about 50 times forward earnings in late 2007, when the Wii was flying off the shelves, to about 10 times today. Nintendo must be hoping that its experience will be something like Sony’s. Meanwhile, US sales of the PS3 jumped 300 per cent after prices dropped last month. That could power-up Nintendo with the extra life it needs.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

It has been a long time coming, but Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is almost with us and looks set to redefine the standards for tactical warfare titles and possibly break new ground for future titles to follow through on.

It has been a while since a title of this type really made an impact on the sales charts, you could say Rainbox Six Vegas 2 is the closest thing in recent times but even that, though a great title in it’s own right, doesn’t appear to match up to the potential of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

The game boasts graphic as realistic as you could possibly expect from today’s gaming hardware and the frame-rates perform well even in the height of intense firefights, both long and close range. Despite some battle sequences being frantic, the majority of the game is spent playing at a slower, sometimes cautious pace and if you try to play any other way you will find yourself being taken out quite regularly.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is all about tactical warfare and if you don’t stay one step ahead of the enemy then your mission is one of suicide! The events of the game focus around a bitter conflict between China and the United States after China invade an oil-rich island off the east coast of Russia called Skira. Skira isn’t the smallest island by any means, giving you 220 square kilometers of gorgeous gaming environment in which to do battle!

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is released on PC, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 on October 9th 2009.

PS3 Grill

Sony targets spring for release of PS3 motion control

Sony has been quite busy of late. The company has announced it will release a motion control device for the PlayStation 3 in spring of 2010.

The controller will work in tandem with the PlayStation Eye to track a user's facial and body movements as well as their voice, Sony says. The device will also support a vibration feature similar to the PS3's DualShock controller.

The device houses "two motion sensors, three axes gyroscope and three axes accelerometer that can detect the controller's angle and movement," states the release. The bulb on top of the controller will change colors to give users visual feedback.

Sony has also revealed a few of the titles that will be compatible with motion controls, including Ape Escape and a sequel to echochrome. Current games such as Flower, PAIN and EyePet will incorporate motion control through a network update.

But perhaps the biggest game to add motion control will be Resident Evil 5, according to Joystiq. The game's producer demonstrated the controls during the Tokyo Game Show. This spring, a new version of the game, Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut, will add the motion control functionality. Joystiq also reports Sony used motion controls during a level of PS3 platformer LittleBigPlanet.

Sony has yet to reveal pricing details or an official name. Game Hunters will bring the latest news on this once it breaks.

Sony PSP Go

The PSP (PlayStation Portable) may have been overshadowed by the sheer volume of hype surrounding the iPhone, but Sony's latest portable gaming goodie, the PSP Go, could see that trend reversed when it launches early next month.

Form-factor-wise the PSP Go is significantly smaller and noticeably lighter than its PSP predecessors, and won't result in you hearing the sound of tearing fabric when you slide it into a pocket.

Downsizing however doesn't mean diminished gaming as the PSP Go's 3.8" TFT LCD screen slides up to reveal all the usual in-game PSP control suspects.

Sony's decision to ditch the optical UMD drive however plays a huge role in lightening the PSP Go's load by approximately 40 per cent. Where PSP titles were initially sold on petite and proprietary UMD discs, the PSP GO has 16GB of built-in flash memory (which can be bolstered by a Memory Stick Micro) slot for storing games and other media.

In addition to helping the PSP Go with its Jenny Craig weight-loss feat, dumping the UMD should see battery life theoretically improved too. About the only downside with that the lack of UMD support is that UMD titles you already own are destined to gather dust for the rest of their pointless lives.

The overall control layout on the PSP Go has changed little from the original PSP 1000, with a four-way directional pad available on the left and the usual Sony control buttons (with the triangle, circle square and cross) on the right.

Rounding things out are the select/start buttons in the centre, and an analogue control which is near the centre bottom of the PSP Go's screen. From a gaming perspective the Go feels very much like a fully-fledged PS3 controller in use, making prolonged bouts of gaming a significantly more comfortable proposition.

802.11b/g Wi-Fi support is also present, and allows for multiplayer mayhem, web surfing or connecting to the Sony online store to purchase and download games. New to the PSP Go is Bluetooth which allows gamers to pair up stereo Bluetooth headsets with the PSP Go. This also allows the Go to perform several other nifty tricks such as pairing up with a PS3 controller.

In terms of game titles, Sony has confirmed PSP Go versions of its big hitters (many of which were pre-installed as demos on the review PSP Go I was sent).

These included Metal Gear Solid Portable, Dissida Final Fantasy, Patapon, LocoRoco, Numblast, Resistance Retribution, Worms Open Warfare, Ridge Racer 2, God of War.

Other titles slated for the PSP Go in 2009 are rumoured to include Little Big Planet, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, and SOCOM Fire Team Bravo 3.

Officially announced in the December 2008 issue of Game Informer, the game is scheduled to be released in North America on October 13, 2009. A European release date was initially announced as October 23, 2009, however this statement was later retracted by Naughty Dog co-president, Christophe Balestra on Twitter.

Call of Duty 2 - Cool PS3 Gameplay Videos

A collection of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 gameplay videos. The game is due for worldwide release on November 10, 2009. Modern Warfare 2 will be released in conjunction with two other Call of Duty games:

• Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:
• Mobilized for the Nintendo DS, and
• Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a port of Call of Duty 4 designed for the Wii console.

In addition, a comic book series based on one of the game's characters will also be produced, entitled Modern Warfare 2: Ghost. The developer has stated that the game's proprietary IW 4.0 game engine is an improvement over the engine used in its previous game.

Voice actor Ken Lally, who has previously provided motion capture work for the Resident Evil 5 character Albert Wesker, confirmed that he provided voice work for Modern Warfare 2; his role in the game was not specified. 50 Cent will provide voice work for the Special Ops and multiplayer modes, playing as "one of the squad voices."

On August 20, 2009, Robert Bowling revealed through Twitter that Kevin McKidd, Craig Fairbrass, Barry Pepper, Keith David, and Glenn Morshower are confirmed voice actors for the game. It has been confirmed that McKidd will voice "Soap" MacTavish.

According to The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency, Hans Zimmer (Da Vinci Code etc) will compose the score for Modern Warfare 2.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

The beginning of October will mark the return of what can only be described as a modern cult-classic title in the shape of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the Playstation 3 - the tweaked and polished follow-on title to Ninja Gaiden 2 on the XBox 360.

Why the change of platform? Who knows, but the fact is Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is currently only due to appear for the Playstation 3 which will undoubtedly delight the console’s loyal fanbase - particularly when taking into account the success of the Ninja Gaiden titles before it on other systems.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 gives you the opportunity to play as one of three ninja’s, all with their own unique strengths and weaknesses if you can call them that! Whether it’s Ryu, Ayane or Momiji that you choose you will ultimately find Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 an action packed and exhilirating game experience.
