E-Ball: A Complete Computer in a Ball

How about taking whole computer in your pocket all the time? This ball predicts the future of computing. You might have seen many things like this but the unique feature of this ball is that when it is closed, no one can guess that whole computer is hidden inside this ball. Much like the 5 in 1 Pen drive which was fetured in this blog earlier.

The concept PC is called E-Ball designed by Apostol Tnokovski. It’s shaped like a sphere because in Tnokovski’s opinion this is the best shape in nature and it draws everybody’s attention.

E-Ball will feature a dual core processor, 250-500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, integrated graphic card and sound card, 2 x 50W speakers, HD-DVD recorder, wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, LAN and WLAN card, modem, Web cam and integrated LCD projector.

The E-Ball PC supports a paper holder and the paper sheet on the holder could act like a screen where you can watch movies or something. This concept PC will measure 160mm in diameter and it was designed for Microsoft Windows OS. For the moment, there is no word on pricing or when it’s going to be available. But upon release, it will surely hit the markets as everyone would like to see a small spherical PC like this one.

The spherical shape may not be practical. A sphere isn’t a very good idea for an object that needs to dissipate heat. Spheres have the highest volume/surface area ratio possible (which is why bubbles are spherical) and so would have the hardest time getting rid of waste heat. But hey, the most important here is that someone is pushing the envelope of PC computing and getting bigger ideas. It takes a brilliant mind to think these ideas which engineers then bring to reality. Sure there are some very dodgy concepts like the round mobo etc, but if nobody demands that engineers stretch their imagination we would still be having dinner with a pick axe out of stone.

Pico could even project an image up to 6ft if it were in a very dark room - depending on the source. This tiny Optoma model may be the most expensive and unusual iPod accessory to date. Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of a new PMP – the R1. Designed to offer users a similar experience as their BeatDJ handsets, the R1 is also their slimmest and lightest multimedia player that’s compatible with DivX video format.

“Samsung’s R1 beat player provides a rich multimedia experience for users who prefer a small form factor but don’t want to sacrifice quality,” said Joo Ho Song, Vice President, Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “Samsung is committed to launching additional multimedia players with advanced features and designs.”

This light weight PMP weighing in at about 50G is just 8.9mm slim and Samsung has it running on their TouchWiz UI. It also features -

Firefox New plug-in lets you "dislike “stories in Facebook.

We all have friends that post offensive, annoying or abusive comments and sadly Facebook doesn’t allow you to “dislike” a comment or any other stuff. All you can do is block/hide that person from your feed which is obviously not a good solution. There is a vast majority of users that want Facebook to implement a “Dislike” button to allow them to show their disapproval but unfortunately for those users it is highly unlikely that Facebook will ever add such a button.

Well, we just found out the next best thing to an actual “Dislike” button, the

Facebook Dislike Firefox plug-in. After you install the plug-in you will notice a “Dislike” button on every item on your news feed placed in between the “Like” and “Similar posts” button. As per our current observation your friends will only be able to see that you have disliked a post if they have the plug-in installed too which is bit of a problem at the moment as there have only been 1200 downloads of this plug-in and not a lot of users are aware of this yet. We expect this number to grow massively in the coming days and weeks keeping in view the recently growing demand of such a button by the users.

Yes, the cool PS3 Slim is out and everyone is so excited about the release, the specs and the amazing update, but I have a feeling that the old Phat PS3 Mods will always look better, for it is as if they have more meat on them to play with. Power Loader Exoskeleton can help you lift 220 pounds

I’m sure you all remember the classic scene in Aliens where Sigourney Weaver enters the room wearing that bulky, yellow, and yet powerful Power Loader suit and heroically exclaims: “Get away from her, you b___h!” Man, did that make the Mother Alien say: “oh, s__t!”

I remember reading a screenwriting book that talked about how awkward that scene would have been if that Power Loader not been given proper introduction in an earlier scene. In fact, when that movie first introduces the Power Loader, I knew it was going to work its way into the film much later.

After all, it was too cool not to. It appears that a company called Activelink, a Panasonic subsidiary based in Kyoto, Japan, has created one in real life. There is a video of it after the jump.

This Power Loader (named after the once-imaginary construction equipment/armor from James Cameron’s classic) has 18 electromagnetic motors that allow its user to lift 220 pounds. Unfortunately, it actually weighs 500 pounds, and moves slowly on its hydraulic feet.

Activelink expects to have this Power Loader out helping relief crews soon, but not until 2015. Hopefully they will have a less bulky model by then, but I don’t think it will be in construction yard yellow like Ripley’s. I’m liking the silver color on this Power Loader.

Attempting to keep track of an active toddler is never an easy task. Even for the most careful parent out there, it’s possible to lose track of them quickly, which can be nerve wrecking. You could also think you lost them, when in reality they’re just right behind you. With this little bear, you’d know that they’re always within 25 feet of you. It’s a two part device, the bear stays on the child and you have another half that stays on you. That makes it so that you know they’re still within a safe distance.

The bad thing is that 25 feet isn’t actually all that much range. If you’re in a big open park, you’d have to stay close to your child, despite that you’re in an area that they’d be safe to run. It would be nice if you could adjust the distance your child can be from you. When they do get outside that range, it gives a chirping type noise through your receiver to let you know. You can then activate the 86-decibel alarm on the child so that you can blow their eardrums find them quickly. The set will cost you $34.99 on Amazon..

Gadget collection sale set to reach £1m

A collection of over 750 gadgets ranging from gramophones to early pocket calculators is set to go on sale tomorrow with an expected price-tag of £1 million.

The diverse selection of tech was a amassed by technology antique dealer Michael Bennett-Levy from Scotland over the past 30 years.

Highlights include one of the first LED pocket calculators from 1971 (estimated to reach between £200 and £300), the Bennet electro-static friction generator from 1770 (£8,000 to £12,000) and the Whimshurst X-ray machine (£7,000 - £10,000).

But we have to wonder, is Bennett-Levy just trying to offload the largest privately held collection of early televisions in the world, ahead of the digital switchoff? A spokesperson for Bonhams, who will host the auction, said: "This diverse collection, expected to fetch up to £1 million, includes clocks, barometers, toys, silent films, typewriters, microscopes, gramophones, globes, wireless sets and televisions – brought together through their rare or pioneering status."
