Warner, YouTube near deal for music videos
NEW YORK: Warner Music Group and YouTube are finalizing an agreement that would allow music videos from artists such as Madonna and Green Day to once again be featured on the popular web site, according to sources close to the deal. The deal, which one source described as imminent, would resolve a dispute over licensing rights that caused Warner Music to pull music videos by its artists from Google Inc's YouTube in December. YouTube and Warner, the third largest music company, declined comment on the deal, first reported by AdAge on Monday. A deal would mean that Warner Music's stable of artists would once again appear on the world's most popular video sharing site, joining those from EMI Music, Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group, all of which have renewed deals. Financial details are unclear; but Warner Music Chief Executive Edgar Bronfman has made known his desire to improve terms of his previous deal with YouTube. Like other industry executives, he faces a music market that has been stung by tumbling CD sales and slowing digital music growth. The deal would also open the door to a possible role for Warner in a new music video website called Vevo, which is backed by Universal and Sony and will be supported by YouTube's technology platform. At the moment, talks about Warner joining Vevo are still in "early stages" and could break down over a range of issues, one source said. The source declined to be named because of the sensitive nature of the discussions. Music industry insiders say that Web videos are catching up with radio and music television as one of the most important music discovery tools for fans. They say Vevo would create a more sophisticated way to experience music on the web, describing a site that would be the music industry's version of Hulu, the popular U.S.-based online TV service backed by NBC Universal, News Corp and Walt Disney Co. Former Universal Music digital chief Rio Caraeff was appointed as Vevo's top executive earlier this summer. The venture has held talks with major advertisers and deals with at least four big brand names are expected to be ready in time for its debut later this year. |
A New Projector Lets You Touch 3D Objects
For added realism, it utilizes a pair of Nintendo Wiimotes for hand movement tracking and a technology known as (ready for it...) Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display. This essentially adds tactile feedback to the hovering image via ultrasonic waves (the projected images float about 12 inches away from the display surface). So when that hand that you see in the picture tries to dribble that tiny ball, it responds like a real superball would.
Ultrasounds are then given so the hand can actually “feel” the impact. Experiements have shown that the ultrasounds can disrupt things from a distance, and if focused properly, they can create a sense of touch. At the end of the video is that hand underneath some raindrops, and it can apparently “feel” them.
This is definitely one of those “this could change everything” technologies, but it is still in its fetal stage. In other words, don’t be dreaming about having your own holodeck from Star Trek TNG anytime soon.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
It has been a long time coming, but Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is almost with us and looks set to redefine the standards for tactical warfare titles and possibly break new ground for future titles to follow through on.
It has been a while since a title of this type really made an impact on the sales charts, you could say Rainbox Six Vegas 2 is the closest thing in recent times but even that, though a great title in it’s own right, doesn’t appear to match up to the potential of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.
| OPERATION FLASHPOINT: DRAGON RISING TRAILER |
The game boasts graphic as realistic as you could possibly expect from today’s gaming hardware and the frame-rates perform well even in the height of intense firefights, both long and close range. Despite some battle sequences being frantic, the majority of the game is spent playing at a slower, sometimes cautious pace and if you try to play any other way you will find yourself being taken out quite regularly.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is all about tactical warfare and if you don’t stay one step ahead of the enemy then your mission is one of suicide! The events of the game focus around a bitter conflict between China and the United States after China invade an oil-rich island off the east coast of Russia called Skira. Skira isn’t the smallest island by any means, giving you 220 square kilometers of gorgeous gaming environment in which to do battle!
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is released on PC, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 on October 9th 2009.

Soularc Skateboard - Cool Surfing Action
It has a huge leaf-spring mounted between its long deck and the wheels and it's less unwieldy-looking than this previous effort.
As you dig your heel in, the spring relaxes into corners, giving you more of a surfing-through-waves feeling. Check out the video of this cool skateboard:
